Am I going the Right Direction?
Today was my longest and rainiest day yet. I've noticed my northern direction is bringing in longer and more consistant rains compared to the heavy short bursts I experienced down in southern Thailand. The only positive thing about the rain is that is reduces the rubbing between my saddle and myself. I have underestimated the coolness of the rains and often find myself biking harder to stay warm. Kind of wish I brought along a longsleeve jersey to bike in.
David from First Choice was kind of enough to wake up and bid me a warm farwell at 6:00 am. He handed me a business card and indicated if I get into any trouble and need some help, feel free to drop him a call. I'm amazed how friendly and supportive total strangers have been on my journey. Thank you and I won't forget.
Udon Thani, similar to Phon, is often bipassed on the way to Laos. Its a shame as so many people are missing a cute town. A stroll through the nightmarket revealed that I could buy a pigs head. Even more disturbing was the fact that they were kept with no refrigeration. Truly surreal. The interesting thing is that I was not phased at all by the display. I am getting into the traveling groove I beleive.
I should be in Laos in two days time. I will miss the easy Baht to US dollar converstion as Lao deals in Kip (sp?) currency which translates into 14,000 Kip to a dollar. I'll have to figure out how in the world I'm going to carry all that currency.
Off to find some delicious green curry, spicy mangoo salad, and chocolate (its been hard to find hershey bars here).
